Aging population is a challenges faced by many countries. In Singapore’s context, the percentage of citizen above the age of 65 has risen from 7.8% to 11.7% in year 2002 to 2013. With a declining total fertility rate, this percentage will continue to increase in years to come.

Although human life span is getting longer. Living a longer life does not imply that an elderly or senior have to spend longer time in an assisted living facilities, nursing home or old folk home. In recent year, much emphasis has been placed on the concept of aging in place for many countries.

In Singapore, tapping of public fund to assist seniors care is not preferred, retired seniors have to rely on their own saving, asset and the support of children for their remaining years.

Subsidies and scheme are established to help the low and middle income families with senior. Families can also made use of community home care facilities to care for ailing or disabled senior at their home. Three-generation households are encouraged in this respect to ensure that elderly can be well cared off during their golden years at own home instead of living facilities.
